Forbes Pound
Council's Ranger has authority to impound straying animals.
Animals are held for the following statutory periods before being :
- Registered dogs - 14 days
- Unregistered dogs - 7 days
- Stock - 7 days then held at the discretion of Council
The Animal Pound is open by appointment only. Appointments can be made during business hours (8:30am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday).

Release Fees for impounded animals
Before an impounded animal is released from the Forbes companion
animal holding facility, appropriate fees and charges must be paid to
Council. This can be paid at the Council Administration Office Monday - Friday 8.30am - 5pm. Unregistered companion animals cannot be released from the pound unless they have been micro chipped and obtained lifetime registration. This can be arranged by Council and the appropriate charges will apply. The fees and charges below are applicable from 1 July 2023.
Once appropriate checks and fees have been paid contact Council to make an appointment for pickup.
