Art & Sculptures

Great things are done by a series of small things brought together” - Vincent Van Gogh.

'Sculpture Down the Lachlan' Sculpture Trail is an exciting new addition to Forbes. Curated by the Forbes Arts Society, the Trail encapsulates the imagination and passion of its creative volunteer members. Based on a concept similar to Sculptures by the Sea (but permanent) the Trail stretches from Forbes to the Lachlan Valley Way, south of Forbes off the Newell Highway. Peppering the streets of Forbes are horses, rabbits and kelpies as well as a range of abstract art creating a fusion of heritage and contemporary installation.  Begin your journey at the mural crafted from wool depicting our region’s farming heroes and from there travel to the sculpture of Ben Hall before stopping at the Platypus Gallery to meet a local artist or view local works of art. Keep an eye out for the cheeky kelpie!

Moving on from the Gallery head towards Albion Park and Gillie and Marc’s “Pyramid’’. The 1.9m high dog/human hybrid installation was donated to Forbes in 2016 and continues to evoke robust conversation among locals and visitors alike.   Make sure you take a stroll along the foreshore of Lake Forbes and discover other intriguing pieces. Travel south from Forbes on the Newell Highway turning right onto the Lachlan Valley Way, continue for six kilometres  and discover,  positioned amongst the river gums, towering two metre-high red letters. Amazing!
