MOSQUITOS |
Council has a mosquito treatment program. Council staff have sprayed and treated areas of infestation (water).
We encourage the community to act sensibly and take action:
- wear long, loose, dark clothing when outside
- use applying repellent (that contain DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus) to all areas of exposed skin and tip out water receptacles that may be providing mozzie breeding habitat.
- Please also make sure that you obey any warning signs and the instructions of staff where spraying may be underway.
Council also uses 'sentinel chickens located at the Sewerage Treatment Plant to monitor 'mosquito-borne diseases. We regularly test the blood of the chickens to keep an eye on the diseases that may emerge post flood, such as Ross River Fever.
