24 January 2024
Forbes Shire Council has hit the ground running in 2024.
I met with the Premier this week with other Central West Mayors from Cabonne, Lachlan and Parkes to continue momentum with the $100 million Recovery and Resilience Package from the State and Commonwealth Governments. Even before the money has been allocated, we have started work on our road network. Night roadworks were again underway in Rankin, Johnson, Regent and Lachlan Street with crews working in that CBD precinct from 6pm to 5am to minimise interruptions to businesses and for road user safety.
There has been some substantial progress made on our major projects, the Multipurpose Equestrian Centre, the landscaping at the former Pitt Stop site, the former Spotlight building.
I am looking forward to celebrating our Forbes community on 26 January. Regardless of what the day means to you personally, it shines a spotlight on the many individuals and organisations our town has the great honour of being home to. These gems in our community were celebrated on Thursday night at the Australia Citizen of the Year Gala Dinner with the announcement of the 2024 Senior of the Year, Young Person and Citizen of the Year. There were so many outstanding nominees – it is an honour to present and recognise these amazing community members.
Today we begin celebrating our country at the Rotary Breakfast in Lions Park, come along and enjoy a hearty Rotary Breakfast and meet our 2024 Ambassador Paul Featherstone – returning to Forbes after helping us out in his Paramedic Rescue role during the 1990 floods.
We will of course also welcome our newest Citizens at a ceremony in Council Chambers. Everyone is invited to bake a damper and enter the CWA Damper Competition and finish at the Party in the Park at lions Park from 6pm. Fireworks are at 9pm.
There will be live music, food and drink vendors, children’s entertainment and activities and the spectacular fireworks display at 9pm. This is a BYO event. See you all there.
Enjoy your week, and God bless.
Phyllis Miller, OAM Forbes Mayor
